Brandon Marshall hasn’t played a down of football since Oct. 14, 2018, but the six-time Pro Bowl receiver is possibly ready to end his retirement if it means getting to play with Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.
On a recent episode of his “I Am Athlete” podcast, Marshall stated he would come out of retirement if offered an opportunity to join Rodgers in New York, with the only caveat being he would switch from receiver to tight end.
"Here's why I'll be ready if I get the call to come back as a New York Jet at tight end, it’s because we're going to win a Super Bowl,” Marshall said. "…I'm going to be able to contribute at a high level, and this is what I'm going to be able to give you: 45 catches throughout the year, 20 to 30 plays a game, and I'm going to give you eight touchdowns."
Marshall, who put on a No. 15 Jets jersey as he made his case for usurping C.J. Uzomah as New York’s starting tight end, acknowledged that he can’t move like he used to during his days as a two-time All-Pro wideout.

To make up for his lack of speed and physicality, Marshall laid out specific conditions of which his new role would entail.
“I’ll be a third-down guy,” Marshall stated. “I’m definitely situational. Third down and red zone, that’s it. And I only want to play 25 to 30 plays a game.”
Marshall played 13 seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Jets, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks, totaling 970 receptions, 12,351 yards and 83 touchdowns.
During his two-year stint with the Jets from 2015 to 2016, Marshall recorded 168 receptions, 2,290 yards and 17 touchdowns, including a 109-catch, 1,502-yard season in his first year with the team in which he led the NFL with 14 touchdowns.
Although the Jets did just add a 39-year-old quarterback, it’s unlikely they have a need for a 39-year-old tight end.
