Nine-time NBA All-Star to re-sign with current club?

Paul George will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. His four-year $176 million deal with the L.A. Clippers is in its final few months. The Clippers are reportedly keen to re-sign him.

With some uncertainty hanging over George's future, the Philadelphia 76ers have been floated as a potential landing spot for the veteran forward. However, Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus has reported that George is expected to remain in Los Angeles.

"The Philadelphia 76ers project to have a massive cache of cap room," Pincus wrote. "While it's believed to be earmarked for Paul George, multiple NBA sources expect George to re-sign with the L.A. Clippers."

Kawhi Leonard has already committed his future to the franchise. Re-signing George would extend the Clippers championship window by multiple years. Injuries have been the primary flaw with the roster construction. The talent available to Ty Lue has never been in question.

George would be wise to re-sign with the Clippers. They move into their new arena next season and are still in the hunt for a championship. They have one of the best coaches in the NBA, and Steve Ballmer is the wealthiest owner in the league. This could be George's best chance at winning a championship.

At 33 years old, George's decision-making will likely be based on his ability to win at the highest level. The Sixers will certainly be appealing. Getting the opportunity to play with a prime Joel Embiid would make anybody question their current situation. Nevertheless, everything is setup for the Clippers to keep progressing. George will likely be the next domino to fall. He is a California native, and getting the opportunity to continue playing in his home city will likely be a factor.

With Kawhi and George on the roster, the Clippers will continue to be perennial contenders for the foreseeable future, even if the supporting cast around then evolves.
