Colorado Buffaloes Lose Another Piece To NCAA Transfer Portal
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Another football player from the Colorado Buffaloes made the move into the transfer portal on Monday.

Kendal Stewart, a wide receiver, shared his decision via social media just two days following the team’s spring game.

“Thank you to my coaches and teammates for taking me in and treating me like family. With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with four years of eligibility left.”

Hailing from Foster High School in Richmond, Texas, Stewart arrived at Deion Sanders’ program last year, boasting a track record of seven touchdowns. Despite his potential, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound recruit spent his freshman year on the sidelines, opting for a redshirt without any playing time for the Buffaloes.

The turnover within Sanders’ program remains noticeable as it gears up for his second season at the helm. Stewart’s entry marked the 22nd player to step into the spring portal, which opened its doors just a fortnight ago.

Earlier this month, wide receivers Tar’Varish Dawson and Jacob Page also ventured into the portal. Additionally, Willie Gaines, who transitioned from Jackson State with Coach Prime and managed two receptions, had already entered the winter portal back in January.

Xavier Weaver, who led Colorado’s receiving stats in 2023, secured a spot with the Arizona Cardinals post the draft. Nonetheless, Shedeur Sanders, aided by Jimmy Horn Jr. and versatile talent Travis Hunter, still has formidable targets in his arsenal.

To bolster their lineup, the Buffaloes welcomed Will Sheppard and LaJohntay Wester through the portal. Sheppard, who racked up 17 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Vanderbilt, brings a promising offensive boost. Meanwhile, Wester boasted an impressive record of 108 catches, 1,168 yards, and eight touchdowns for Florida Atlantic in 2023.

Despite their offensive firepower, Colorado seeks improvement after averaging 294.7 passing yards per game amidst a challenging 4-8 season.
